New Delhi: On Thursday, National Green Tribunal, slamming the Centre along with other states like Harayana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan government over inaction to tackle air pollution, proposed to expand the scope of ban of diesel vehicle to the four states.
NGT also directed the central and state governments to declare emergency if the particulate matter 2.5 and 10 reaches in excess of 500 and 300 mg respectively.
NGT said that the states must temporarily shutdown thermal power plants and close all construction activities in the affected areas during the emergency.
NGT asked the central and state governments to constitute committees to tackle crop burning and find out the source of pollution with regards to stubble burning which has been as the major cause of air pollution, .
