Maharashtra has the highest number of novel coronavirus cases in the country after 6 new cases emerged on Monday and the toll rises to 39 in the state.

As a preventive measure, the state has stopped all examinations and instructed college and school staff to work from home till March 25.

Meanwhile, Health minister Rajesh Tope earlier on Saturday evening announced that shopping malls across the state will remain closed till the month-end.

Given the high number of coronavirus cases in the state, the Maharashtra government has now created three groups of potential cases based on the risk of contraction of the disease.

  1. A category: Those who have been screened at airports and have been showing symptoms. These individuals have been straight away taken to the Kasturba Hospital for quarantine.
  2. B category: Those who are likely to get infected or prone to get infected will be kept in isolation facilities and they are being monitored. Their samples will be taken and they will be discharged on doctors’ orders. They are expected to self-isolate and a local medical officer will keep track of them regularly.
  3. C category: Those who haven’t shown any symptoms and have been asked to go home to follow self-isolation. However, they will also remain under surveillance. At present, around 1,000 such people are under surveillance in Mumbai. Even the local municipal/collector offices have received the list of c category people from various entry points in India.

In view of the Covid-19 tested positive profile of the patients, authorities have said that the next 14 days are crucial in terms of epidemic stages.

Meanwhile, according to a tally published by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Tuesday morning, India has 125 Covid-19 cases including two people who have died and 13 who’ve been discharged.
