Wankhede Stadium will be the venue for the ceremony scheduled to take place on 7 April after the date was shifted recently. Delhi based event management firm, Witchcraft has won the bid to stage the opening ceremony.

This will be the first time that all the team captains won’t be attending the customary promise of playing cricket by the spirit of the game. Due to IPL schedule and logistic issues of last-minute traveling for the players, other six captains will not be attending the opening ceremony this season, unlike previous years..

IPL opening ceremonies have never just served the purpose of a ribbon cutting the event. It is always a captivating spectacle high on glamour quotient and pyrotechnics. There have been major talking points regarding changes in the format and reduction in the budget since the takeover of broadcasting rights by Star India from Sony entertainment.

The Bajirao Mastani actor is reportedly charging astronomical figure of Rs. 5 crores for his performance. Parineeti Chopra will perform in the inauguration of the cash rich league in another show stopping event of the night.

Performances from other big names of the B-town are also expected to follow and many Bollywood icons and former cricketers along with the fans are expected to grace the occasion. Captains of Mumbai Indians (Rohit Sharma) and Chennai Super Kings (MS Dhoni) will be present for the oath ceremony. They will face each other in the season opener after the opening ceremony.
