India Meteorological Department issues 5-day alert about heavy rain and storms

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a five-day alert, a week after heavy rains and thunderstorms killed lots of people across the country.

The weather experts warned people that heavy rainfall, strong winds, thundershowers, and hail would be seen this next week and might endanger the lives of people and agricultural products as well.

A day back, sudden rain accompanied by gales hit Hyderabad that uprooted more than 70 trees and six electric poles and killed two people as well. Dust Storm and rain hit New Delhi-NCR and Haryana a few days back. Powerful winds uprooted a lot of trees and electricity poles as well. One person in Gopalpur area was killed due to bad weather.

Last week, around 80 people got killed and more than 100 were injured due to thunderstorms and lightning in parts of Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Delhi, and Uttarakhand.

Weather experts warned about the fresh western disturbances that are likely to bring heavy dust storms, hail and heavy rain in various parts of the country next weekend. However, no concrete preparation and disaster management is taking place in North India in view of the above warnings.

Thunderstorms accompanied by heavy winds are likely to cover regions like Uttarakhand, western Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal and entire North East.

Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi are also in the radar. Western disturbances bring moisture into the atmosphere that makes the situation more endangering.
