India Saw 4.3 Lakh Cyber Attacks From Nations Including US, China

India has been attacked with 4.3 lakh cyber-attacks from 5 countries that are China, Russia, The US, The Netherlands and Germany. Not only these countries have attacked India but total numbers of 73,000 attacks were witnessed from India itself. According to a Finnish Cybersecurity company’s report, these attacks were witnessed between January and June. Total 436,090 attacks were initiated from China, Russia, The US, The Netherlands and Germany. The report also mentioned India’s rank globally at 21st with 6,95,396 cyber-attacks across the globe.

The majority of attacks were from Russia. According to F-Secure’s honeypots, India accounted 255,589 cyber-attacks from Russia. Followed by Russia, US attacked India with 103,458 attacks. China, the Netherlands and Germany accounted 42,544, 19,169 and 15,330 cyber-attacks respectively. These attacks were 12 times more than the attacks originated from India.

“Not only these countries have attacked India but Indian cyber attackers have also attacked several countries including Austria, the UK, the Netherlands, Japan and Ukraine. The relatively higher number of inbound attacks on Indian honeypots reflects how the fast-digitising country is becoming more lucrative for global cyber criminals. We are gathering and analysing all the pertinent data to ensure that our customers stay protected given the dynamically evolving threat landscape,” Leszek Tasiemski, Vice President of cyber security products R&D at F-Secure, said in a statement on Sunday.

He added by saying, “Our public honeypots are a valuable source of threat intelligence and an integral part of the infrastructure that powers our various security offerings, including our Rapid Detection and Response Service.”

Honeypots are the trackers which grab the attention of the cyber attackers by luring them access to unauthorized services and after studying it, they realize that it’s a honeypot. Total 41 honeypots have been deployed across the globe by F-Secure to track down the hackers. These honeypots are also able to trace the elite hackers.
