Rains likely to continue for another day in Tamil Nadu

Last Friday, the cyclone destroyed the coastal areas of the southern state claiming the life of 45 people. More than 1 lakh houses, tress and thousands of poles were uprooted in many districts of Tamil Nadu including Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Pudukottai.

The Tamil Nadu government which is supervised by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami had intended to evacuate around 20,000 people located in the coastal line areas and shifting them to relief camps in order to lessen the damage to the properties and human lives due to the cyclone.

Fishing activities had also been put on hold along the Tamil Nadu and neighbouring areas of Andhra Pradesh coasts. The fishermen in the surrounding of the cyclone prone areas were requested not to go out to the sea.

All educational institutions including schools and colleges remained closed due to the high alert in Puducherry and Karaikal regions.

The officials also declared holiday for schools and colleges in Thiruvarur, Pudukottai, Nagapattinam, Cuddalore and Ramanathapuram.

But also after providing this much restoration and relief, cyclone destroyed most of the regions. Even the aid and restoration effort was affected by heavy rains that continued after the cyclone.

Last year also, the cyclone destroyed many regions of the state in the first week of November. This year, the cyclone has arrived late but has caused more trouble for the people of Tamil Nadu.
