The Nariman House also known as Chabad House is a five floor building in the Colaba area of South Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. The building was unfortunately the target of 26/11 terrorist attack, which was home for Jewish community in the city.
26/11 Mumbai Attack 10th Anniversary
According to the recent report on Friday, Chabad House is going to be renamed on ‘26/11’ tenth anniversary and also after the visit of Israel prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s, who visited India ten months before.
The present rabbi, Israel Kozlovsky, said the renaming ceremony of Chabad House will take place on the eve of 26/11 terrorist attack, on Sunday afternoon, which will be organized on behalf of the Chabad of India Trust. The ceremony will take place at the main Jewish social cultural religious hub in Colaba, south Mumbai.

The event will also spot the opening of a memorial on the Nariman House terrace, which will mark it the only place in Mumbai to give honour and tribute to all the 164 victims of the Mumbai terrorist attack. Other than that, the Plans for the reconstruction of the severely damaged building will be announced by Rabbi Kozlovsky and other officials.
The building which was home for Jewish community was run by Gavriel and Rivka Holtzberg, who owned the building since 2006. On the day of attack, out of 10 terrorist, the 2 gunmen attacked the Chabad House building, six of its inhabitants as well as Holtzberg and his wife, who was five months pregnant, were brutally killed by the gunmen. Their two year old son, Moshe survived this deadly attack after being saved by his Indian nanny, Sandra Samuel. Later, they were flown off to Israel after few days of the attack.
The civilians who died in the Nariman House building, deadly Mumbai terrorist attack were:
Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg (29), who was the citizen of United States Brooklyn, United States (and dual Israel Israeli citizenship)
Rebbetzin Rivka Holtzberg (28), also wife of Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg, who was the citizen of Israel Afula, Israel
Bentzion Kruman (26), who was the citizen of Israel Bat Yam, Israel (and dual United States US citizenship)
Rabbi Leibish Teitelbaum(37), who was the citizen of United States Brooklyn, United States
Yoheved Orpaz(62), who was the citizen of Israel Givatayim, Israel
Norma Shvarzblat Rabinovich (50), who was the citizen of Mexico
The Nariman House, housing the Chabad House, was one of the main targets of ten Pakistani Lashkar-e-Tayyiban associates, who travelled from Karachi, Pakistan, to Mumbai through a boat which they hijacked on their way. They started their evil plan of destruction by firstly killing all the crew members as well as the captain of the boat by slitting his throat and throwing their bodies overboard. They then entered Mumbai on a rubber dinghy after which they abducted various buildings in Mumbai, carried out a sequence of 12 coordinated firing and bombing attacks which last four days across Mumbai, leaving 308 people wounded and 164 people dead.
This year, earlier on 18th January 2018, Moshe, the only child of Holtzberg and his wife, who survived the deadly attack in the Nariman House, visit the building along with his grandfather, Shimon Rosenberg and grandmother. He is now 12 years old.
The building was reopened in 2014 and it was the first ever visit by any notable Israeli personage to Chabad House. The building is now considered as a ‘Living Memorial’ to the 26th November 2008 bloodshed.
