Samvidhan Divas which is also known as Constitution Day is celebrated annually in India on 26th November. This day is celebrated to remember the adoption of Constitution of India. On this day, Constitution of India was adopted by the Constituent Assembly of India in 1949 which came into effect on 26th January 1950.

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was the prime architect of the Indian Constitution. On his 125th birth Anniversary which was celebrated on 2015, foundation stone of B.R Ambedkar memorial was inaugurated in Mumbai.

About the Day

The declaration for the Constitution Day was made on 11th October 2015 when Prime Minister Narendra Damodardas Modi laid the foundation stone of B.R Ambedkar in Mumbai. It was announced through a notification in a newspaper that 26th November will be celebrated as Constitution Day by the government of India on 19th November 2015. Previously, this day was celebrated as law day but now it is known as Samvidhan or Constitution Day in order to spread the importance of Indian constitution as well as great thoughts of Ambedkar.

 

Nationa Law Day Celebrations

On the Constitution Day, various departments of Indian government as well as Indian educational institute celebrate this day by reading the preamble of Indian Constitution. According to the Department of Education and Literacy, various quiz and essay competitions are held in all the educational institutes across the country. Speeches are also delivered to the students in order to tell the importance of our Constitution.

Indian Constitution Day 2018 Celebrations

On the 69th anniversary of Indian Constitution Day, the day will be celebrated at the Parliament on 26th November 2018 by the command of Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. In the celebration of the Samvidhan Day, various officers, politicians and employees would be present at the Parliament.

In the Constitution Day celebrations, Chief Secretary Ajay Singh is going to make the official authorities to read out the preamble of the Indian Constitution.

Modi showed gratitude at his 50th ‘Mann Ki Baat’ and thanked Dr. B.R Ambedkar for his vital role in writing the Indian Constitution. He said, “Tomorrow is Constitution Day. Our Constitution was adopted on November 26, 1949. The Constituent Assembly took 2 years 11 months and 17 days to accomplish this stupendous task of drafting Constitution. I thank them all.”
