Virat Kohli becomes the first Asian captain to capture a win against Australia in their ground

In the first three test matches between India and Australia, India had the lead by 2-1. On the final day which was being played at the Sydney Cricket Ground, India won the series due to rain. Captain Virat Kohli imprinted his name in history books by becoming the first ever Asian Captain to win a test series in Australia.

India already had a lead of 2-1 and they just had to draw the final match to win the test series and it did and won the series on the Australian ground.

The 1st Innings of the fourth was played by Indian Cricket team. India scored a whole sum of 622 runs with 7 wickets. Australia while chasing the target ended up scoring 6 runs with 0 wickets. The game ended as rain started.

The duo of Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant scored 193 and 153 (Not Out) respectively. They marked their names on Sydney Cricket Ground’s Honours Board while becoming the major architects of India’s Innings.

Details on 4 Days Test

First Day: Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul recorded a memorable moment for their state team Karnataka when they both together opened the innings for India. For first time, two Karanataka’s player did opening together for India’s batting in test series.

KL Rahul gave bad performance while Mayank Agarwal impressed everyone by making 116 runs with Pujara standing at the opposite. Both their partnership laid the foundation for rest of the batsmen.

India’s captain and vice-captain Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane did not score much runs and returned to the pavilion after getting out at 23 and 18 respectively. Hanuma Vihari along with Pujara scored more than 100-plus runs.

Second Day: Pant shared the spotlight with Pujara and Ravindra Jadeja. Pant and Pujara scored 89 runs in partnership. After the duo, Pant and Jadeja carried out their partnership and shattered all the bowling attack of Australian bowlers.

This test series observed RishabhPant become the first ever Indian wicket keeper cum batsman to score a century in Australia. Rishabh Pant scored 159 while being not out till the end. Before Rishabh Pant, MS Dhoni held the record of highest Test score by an Indian wicketkeeper but after the SCG test, he even surpassed MS Dhoni’s 148 not our record against Pakistan.

The last match’s 1st inning went for two days and ended with Jadeja’s 81 runs on the Day two.

Kuldeep Yadav became the first ever bowler to bowl in form in all three formats. The Indian spinner rolled the hosts by his maiden five-wicket heave overseas in his very first Test in Australia. Yadav was also supported by by Jadeja (2), Mohammed Shami (2) and Jasprit Bumrah (1). He credited Shane Warne for his guidance that helped him to turn the tables over the hosts.

Well, the fourth day observed a brilliant and excellent performance by Indian cricketers but it was all spoiled by the rain ruining the last three days of the match. Australia was able to circle 322 runs on Day four.

Kohli became the second Indian captain to have enforced the follow-on in Australia after Kapil Dev, who had done that in 1986.

Unfortunately, when the Australians came out to bat for the second time, they were only able to play for four overs and after that it again started the raining causing the game to reach its conclusion.
