Indian Food Delivery Platform bet big on Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve dilevery system in India

As per the research firm of Bengaluru-based, RedSeer, the Indian platform of online food delivery is anticipated to reach and strike $4 billion by 2020 and to grip and control terabytes of data for delivery proficiency has managed food delivery platforms such as Swiggy and Zomato bet big on AI and Machine Learning (ML).

Dale Vaz who is the Head of Engineering and Data Science, Swiggy, said in a recent report, “Swiggy’s mission is to bring unparalleled convenience into the lives of urban consumers. We do this by operating a three-way, hyper-local marketplace where we match consumer demand with supply from restaurants and delivery partners”.

Dale Vaz joined Swiggy from Amazon India in July last year and he further added, “We use AI/ML across this three-way marketplace to deliver a wow customer experience, unlock business growth and drive operational efficiency”.

On the customer side, Swiggy is consuming AI to provide a personalised detection practise for them, be it catalogue intelligence, customer intelligence, applicability and modified customer experience and present signals also the last-mile distance in the middle of the restaurant and customer location.

Talking about the restaurant side, it is using AI for time-series centred request estimate models that assist its partner’s strategy in advance for the demand.

Dale Vaz said, “In addition to our dedicated delivery fleet (the largest in the country), AI models help us ensure that we provide a highly accurate delivery promise to our customers and meet that promise in an efficient manner”.

As per the Deepinder Goyal, the CEO of Zomato, they were at 3.5 million orders a month. In his recent interview he said, “With 21 million orders per month, as far as we know, we are now the market leader in the food ordering space in India”.

Swiggy, which lately raised up $1 billion, on Monday acqui-hired Kint.io, a start-up which concentrates in applying deep learning and computer vision for object acknowledgement in videos.

For drone-based food delivery, Zomato has developed a desi startup called TechEagle Innovations.

CEO Deepinder Goyal said, “We believe that robots powering the last-mile delivery is an inevitable part of the future and hence is going to be a significant area of investment for us”.

Uber Eats in its first year of operations in India is undergoing an approximately 50% month-on-month (MoM) progress. In the last three months it has more than doubled up in terms of the total number of orders. Uber Eats is at present available in about 37 cities in India.

Head of Uber Eats, India, Bhavik Rathod in recent report said, “Uber Eats has gained great momentum in India and is one of its fastest growing markets in the Asia Pacific region.”
