The celebration is celebrated in an honourable approach by placing the icons of Lord Krishna and Radha on a beautifully made palanquin which is then taken round the ultimate bouleds of the city. This year, Dol Purnima is going to be celebrated on 21st March 2019, Thursday.
Dol Purnima Celebration
On the Dol Purnima day, the devotees early in the morning take a bathe and cover them up in saffron-hued garments and wear laurels of aromatic blossoms. They sing and travel to the backup of melodic instruments presenting a pleasant viewpoint to the spectators and a remembrance to love for a significant length of time.
On this fortunate day, an image of Krishna is richly decorated and besmeared with coloured powder (Abir in Bengali and Assam and Odisha). After embellishing the image of Lord Krishna is taken out in procession, in a swinging palanquin which is also fully decorated with flowers, leaves, coloured clothes and papers.
The procession continues to move forward to the accompaniment of music, blaring of conch shells, trumpets and shouts of ‘Jai’, which in English means victory.
The significance of Dol Purnima
Dol Purnima turns out to be all the more important for Bengalis, for the reason that this is also the birth date of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu (1485–1533). He was a great Vaishnava saint, who promoted modern sankirtana. He raised the desire of Radha and Krishna to a great spiritual level.
He emphasized the emotional at the cost of the traditional side of devotion. Admirers or devotees of Chaitanya School of Vaishnavism, consider Chaitanya to be the appearance of Krishna. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu supposed that the spirit of sadhana is at all times the loving recollection of Hari.
