PM Narendra Modi biopic’s release delayed by a week
According to the petitioner lawyer Tausif Sheikh, the issue will be mentioned in the court today for an urgent hearing.
The SLP filed in the SC demands a stay on the release of the film. The Special Leave Petition says that HC did not take most of the aspects into consideration and rejected the plea. The petition also says that the film is being released before the election as it may influence the voters to cast their votes in favour in favour of the BJP and that is simply the violation of conducting the fair election.
The PIL is putting a question mark on the release of the film as it seems that it is being released for propaganda. If the film released, it can give PM Modi earn more speed in gaining votes. The SLP is also demanding the makers to remove the trailers from the social media sites.
The petitioner said, “We have conveyed the urgency in front of the Chief Justice that the film would be released on April 5. EC’s standing counsel is of the view that we have not got the notice up till now.”
The Election Comission has told the SC that it has already asked question from the makers and is waiting for their response. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) told the court that it had already approved essential permits for the trailer on March 20.
The film is about our current Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It shows the struggle he faced and how he became CM and then PM after being from a very poor family. In this movie, Vivek Oberoi is playing the role of Modi. However, he told everyone that he doesn’t even consider this movie as a propaganda film.
He said, “It is just a coincidence that the film is releasing ahead of the election. It is not a propaganda film. I am an individual who has a credible body of work over the last 18 years, more than 45 films and more than 26-27 awards. So I stand my ground there. I don’t need to make him appear as a hero. He is a hero to billions of people across the world.”
