World Art Day is an international celebration of the fine arts which is celebrated every year on April 15. The day was declared by the International Association of Art (IAA) in order to promote awareness of artistic activity worldwide. Himachal Diwas 2019 Quotes

World Art Day 2019

A proposal to declare April 15 as World Art Day was put forward at the 17th General Assembly of the International Association of Art in Guadalajara. After the approval the first celebration was held in the year 2012.

This proposal was sponsored by Bedri Baykam of Turkey and co-signed by Rosa Maria Burillo Velasco of Mexico, Liu Dawei of China, Pavel Kral of Slovakia, Christos Symeonides of Cyprus, Anne Pourny of France, Anders Liden of Sweden, Kan Irie of Japan and Dev Chooramun of Mauritius as well as Hilde Rognskog of Norway. It was accepted universally by the General Assembly.

The date was then decided in order to honour of the birth date of Leonardo da Vinci. Da Vinci was selected as a representation of world peace, freedom of expression, acceptance, brotherhood and multiculturalism as well as art’s significance to other fields.

World Art Day Past Celebration

The first World Art Day was celebrated on April 15, 2012 and was supported by all IAA national committees as well as 150 artists, comprising those of France, Sweden, Slovakia, South Africa, Cyprus and Venezuela, but the purpose of the event is worldwide. Events differ from exceptional museum hours to seminars and more. For instance Venezuela conducted outdoor art exhibitions with paintings, sculptures, prints, video and more.
