Madras High Court lifted the ban on download of TikTok app in India

TikTok users can be relieved as the temporary ban on the app downloads has been lifted. Previously, TikTok app was removed by Google and Apple on their corresponding app stores after the ban by the Supreme Court. Earlier, the Madras High Court, which has been hearing public notice lawsuit against the app, said that the children who were using TikTok were open to coverage to sexual predators. Madras High Court lifts ban on download of TikTok app in India

The court said in an order seen by Reuters that “Inappropriate” content was TikTok’s “dangerous aspect”, it further added that “there is a possibility of the children contacting strangers directly”. TikTok ban

Today, on April 24 in the Madras High Court, the TikTok’s case was due for a hearing. As per to the Bar and Bench, the Madras High Court has lifted up the ban on further downloads of the app. TikTok is going to be available for download on Google Play Store and App Store soon.

Previously this month, the Madras High Court had ordered the Centre to ban TikTok in the nation disagreeing that the platform “encourages pornography”. After that the Supreme Court then ordered Google and Apple to take away the app from their online platforms to block any additional downloads. The app was still allowed to be used in India for those who have already downloaded it but it prohibit for any additional one.

Earlier, TikTok said in a statement, “At TikTok, we are committed to abiding by local laws and regulations. We fully comply with the Information Technology (Intermediaries Guidelines) Rules, 2011. We are currently awaiting the official order by the Honourable High Court of Madras and once received, we will review and take appropriate action regarding this matter.”

The statement further added, “Maintaining a safe and positive in-app environment at TikTok is our priority. We have robust measures to protect users against misuse, protect their privacy and digital wellbeing. This includes easy reporting mechanisms that enable users and law enforcement to report content that violates our terms of use and comprehensive Community Guidelines. In order to better coordinate with law enforcement agencies, we have appointed a Chief Nodal Officer based out of India.”

The popularity of TikTok’s has seen the fastest growth internationally, and particularly in India. The viral video app lately crossed over 1 billion downloads, and also had the finest Q1 ever. As per to a report by Sensor Tower, TikTok added 188 million operators in the first quarter of this year. The report further specified that most of its operators came from India. Out of the 188 million users, Sensor Tower projected about 88.6 million of them are from India.
