Cicketer-turned politician Gautam Gambhir, who had recently joined the BJP on March 22, has sent a defamation notice to the three AAP leaders and those are: Aam Aadmi Party chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia as well as AAP’s Lok Sabha candidate Atishi.
Gambhir who is the BJP candidate from East Delhi Lok Sabha seat, has sent a defamation notice after they accused Gautam Gambhir of allotting “derogatory” and “casteist pamphlets” against Atishi. Atishi is the candidate of AAP from East Delhi.
On Thursday, at a press conference Atishi claimed that “derogatory notes” were circulated by Gautam Gambhir at a BJP rally in advance of voting in Delhi.
Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia, who was also there at the press conference, also accused Gautam Gambhir of circulating pamphlets in an effort to insult the AAP candidate.
After that Arvind Kejriwal also through his Twitter account, said he never imagined Gautam Gambhir may perhaps “stoop so low”. He tweeted, “How can women expect safety if people with such mentality are voted? Atishi, stay strong. I can imagine how difficult it must be for you. It is precisely this kind of forces we have to fight against.”
On the other hand, Gautam Gambhir criticized all the accusations as well as said that Arvind Kejriwal is a “filth” who is “outraging the modesty of a woman” in order to win elections.
Gautam Gambhir, who declared his retirement from cricket in December 2018, has been much spoken about his support to the ruling government at the Centre, and has frequently praised the policies and judgments taken by the BJP.
After joining the politics, Gautam Gambhir has been in news, in previous month also Election Commission has asked the East Delhi returning officer to file a case against Gambhir, BJP’s East Delhi Lok Sabha seat candidate, for conducting a rally without any approval.
Also, Aam Aadmi Party’s Atishi, in previous month has also lodged a complaint against the Gambhir for apparently having two voter ID cards, out of which one from Karol Bagh and an additional from Rajinder Nagar.
At that time she claimed that Gambhir, in his official declaration to the returning officer while filing his nomination had “concealed the information that he is also registered to vote in Karol Bagh, which is punishable under Sec 125A of the Representation of the People Act with up to six months jail time.”
Gambhir had joined the BJP on March 22, saying that he was overwhelmed with vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The BJP has fielded the former well famed cricket star from the East Delhi Lok Sabha constituency. The seven Lok Sabha constituencies of Delhi are going to polls on May 12 whereas, the counting of votes as well as the result will be declared on May 23.
