The need for an alternative jersey arose after the International Cricket Council issued a guideline before the start of the World Cup, requiring teams to have two different uniforms for all its televised tournaments except hosts England. The rule was inspired by the use of home and away jerseys in football, ICC rules now prevent two teams from wearing similar jerseys during a televised match.

ICC rule reads, “For televised ICC events all participating teams will be required to provide for two different coloured kits, except for the host country who has preference in the choice of colour and may, if it chooses to do so, provide only one coloured kit to be worn in all matches throughout the event. In advance of the event, the teams will be notified which coloured kit will be worn in each match.” Semi-Final Qualification Scenarios 2019

Some opposition politicians on Wednesday slammed the Indian national cricket team’s new orange jerseys, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party of pushing its trademark saffron hue on the team. India vs New Zealand Manchester Weather Update.

But an International Cricket Council (ICC) source told that the Indian cricket board (BCCI) had simply opted for orange over its classic blue jersey to distinguish itself from England, whom India are due to play in the World Cup on Sunday. India, who are the only unbeaten team in the ongoing premier tournament so far, will compete against the hosts at Edgbaston on June 30.
