Twin Cities Storms: Heavy rain and more storms expected overnight

On Sunday, the storms that pushed through the Twin Cities have produced that much of wind which was enough to cause tree damage as well as knock out power in some areas. After the afternoon storms in the southern part of Minnesota, the residents have been seeking for the shelter as the National Weather Service has issued warnings for tornado.

It all started few days back when the weather for Minnesota started with high temperature and heat on Saturday but, early Sunday morning, the scene totally changed and was totally opposite of it.

The winds on Sunday morning reached constant speeds of 35 MPH for parts of the greater metro and as of 8:30 am, there were more than 9,000 Xcel Energy customers who were without power in the metro area, with about 6,000 of the customers situated north of Interstate 694 in and nearby Fridley, Spring Lake Park, Mounds View as well as Shoreview.

A lightning strike in Bloomington has also sparked a fire at a home on the 9600 block of Little Road. However, no one gets wounded, but the house got some serious damaged by the lightning, as per to the fire department.

The estimate for the wind speed has not been confirmed by the National Weather Service, but the wind would’ve likely been related with a powerful drainage boundary, which is basically a wall of wind proceeding forward of rainfall.

But now, having two to four inches of rain fall on Sunday as well as Monday, some parts of southern Minnesota are in danger of flooding.

Some of the roads have already been started flooding, which also comprises of a mudslide across Highway 19 near Morton. The highway was then closed in the middle of Morton and Franklin for a short period time, but it was then reopened after some time.

Earlier on Sunday, the National Weather Service has also issued the tornado warnings in Freeborn and Waseca counties, just north of Albert Lea.

There were at least total number of 13,000 people who were without power on Sunday morning as storms move all over to the Minnesota and Wisconsin.

As per to the Xcel Energy, nearby 8 am more than 100 outage orders were reported, that further affected about total number of 13,168 customers. The issues were then resolved after some time.

In the meantime, the authorities across both the states are making actions to the various reports such as quite a lot of trees knocked down, the power supply goes down and many more.
