Bastille Day 2019 in France Celebration, showcased European military cooperation; Highlights!

The national day of France which is commonly and popularly known as Bastille Day is celebrated every year on July 14. The official French name for the day is la Fête Nationale as well as generally and legally le 14 Juillet.

This year in 2019, the Bastille Day was celebrated on 14th July 2019, Sunday. The celebration of the day is held in Paris every year, but this year it was not just about showcasing France, but also showed the military cooperation amongst all the European nations.

The Bastille Day is held every year in order to celebrate the anniversary of Storming of the Bastille on 14 July 1789, the day which is also considered to be a turning point of the French Revolution, as well as with the Fête de la Fédération which observe the harmony and unity of the French people on 14 July 1790.

How France Celebrated Bastille Day 2019-

This year, the flags of the total of 10 nations of the European Intervention Initiative, a joint military pact generated previous year, headed military parade on Sunday down the Champs Elysees avenue in Paris.

Before the parade, President Emmanuel Macron sends a message to the French people highlighting the significance of France’s commitment in order to boost European security.

He said, “Never since the end of the Second World War has Europe been so necessary. The construction of a Europe of defense, in connection with the Atlantic Alliance…is a priority for France. It is the theme of this parade,”

As per to Reuters, there were some 4,300 soldiers, about 200 vehicles as well as more than 100 aircraft, some from other European nations, have taken part in the parade that was released by Spanish troops.

Many European leaders were present in the event which comprises of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte as well as Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

In the year 2017, Bastille Day events at France, U.S. President Donald Trump, who was the guest of honor at that event was so much impressed that he ordered a military parade in Washington for  July 4 celebrations in America. Macron is going to later host a lunch at the Elysee Palace with additional European leaders, which also comprises of Merkel.

As per to the Reuters, the European Intervention Initiative is a coalition of 10-countries of European militaries set to respond to crises. The French-led initiative, which comprises of Germany, Belgium, Britain, Denmark, Estonia, the Netherlands, Spain, as well as Portugal, was launched previous year.
