Facebook to retitle Instagram and WhatsApp, will add ‘from Facebook’ to their names

Right now, the most famous and widely popular social networking apps all around the world are Instagram and WhatsApp. Well, being so much in news, there are still a lot of people who are still not familiar by the fact that these two social media platforms are the sub-brands of Facebook.

Mark Zukerberg in the year 2012 bought the photo-sharing app and then WhatsApp in the year 2014, and after that Facebook has let these two applications to run as independent entities.

These two companies comprises of their own managers, employees, as well as even separate work places. Facebook, in the past year has taken steps in order to make WhatsApp and Instagram less independent.

But on Friday, the social network giant confirmed that the rebranding of these two apps (WhatsApp and Instagram). Facebook is now going to rename the apps as well as going to add its own name. So now, Instagram will turn out to be “Instagram from Facebook” and likewise, WhatsApp will be known as “WhatsApp from Facebook”.

The reason behind rebranding these apps is that Facebook wants to make it ownership to be in view. A Facebook spokesperson also told The Information, We want to be more clear about the products as well as services that are part of Facebook. The social media giant indeed has a grand vision of a associated messaging system in the middle of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

The new titles such as “Instagram from Facebook” and “WhatsApp from Facebook” are going to appear in Apple’s App Store as well as Google Play. There are some reports that says that the new name is going to be displayed only on the app store pages on both Android and iOS.

The new names are also going to be visible on the login pages. On the other hand, nothing has been said about any new feature which has been ported from the Facebook app.

Facebook has inherited a lot of features from Instagram in the past few years as well as has distributed some to WhatsApp. For instance, the Instagram stories were ported to WhatsApp as Status as well as on Facebook as stories (even though this feature in itself was encouraged from Snapchat).

It is true that Facebook has been responsible for the growth of these two platforms into what we know of them today. However, Facebook itself has been involved in many controversies in the last few years related to data privacy and security concerns.

Instagram and WhatsApp have been largely kept unaffected from the controversies on security issues as compared to the Facebook which itself has been involved in many controversies in the past few years. Though, Facebook has been considered to be responsible for the growth of these two platforms into what we know of them today but still everyone fears that Facebook may possibly do something similar to these platforms.
