Apple is apparently getting ready to launch its first 5G-enable MacBook models and the timing for the launch is expected in the second half of 2020. The report states that the Cupertino-based company is allegedly considering use a ceramic material for the 5G antenna board in its upcoming MacBook, , rather than metal, which will apparently said to improve cellular reception as well as transmission speed.
However, it also cost six times more than metal ones. This would intensely advances the cellular reception and transmission speed, news portal 9To5MAC reported on Friday.
“It is reported that the ceramic antenna board used by Apple has twice the transmission and reception efficient of the 5G signal to the metal material antenna board, but the cost is six times that of the metal material antenna board,” DigiTimes said in its report.
The 5G-enabled MacBook line, which is not clear that if Apple is looking at a MacBook Pro or else the MacBook Air form factor, would allegedly be ready to ship in late 2020.
On the other hand, the new model is believed to be an addition to the MacBook Pro product lineup, in spite of a 15-inch replacement, with an introductory price around $3000.
Well-known and very popular Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that the company would reveal 5G iPhones in the year 2020, while Qualcomm on the other hand, is still expected to be its major supplier of 5G modems.
As per to some media reports, next year the iPhone-maker is expected to launch total of three iPhones. Apple’s 6.7-inch and 5.4-inch iPhones is going to be 5G-capable, while a mid-size 6.1-inch iPhone won’t have 5G and is expected to be cheaper.
Regarding the ceramic use, the report states, Apple is willing to absorb the charges of using ceramic for the reason that of its premium standing in the market as well as the benefits the design is going to provide as compared to using metal. If everything goes as per to the plan, then the consumers may possibly get their hands on a 5G-enabled MacBook in the second half of 2020.
The noted Apple expert as well as predictor also assumes that the company is going to have its own 5G modem ready by 2022 or 2023, which should lessen its dependence on Qualcomm.
Apple’s 2020 iPhone is also apparently going to feature 5G, however not the company’s rumoured custom chip. That’s said to reach in the year 2021.
Other brands such as Dell, HP and Lenovo are already likely to be among the first companies that are going to launch 5G notebooks this year in 2019.
