On Thursday, All-rounder Rahmat Shah became the first cricketer to score a Test century from Afghanistan. The right-handed batsman from Afghanistan has created the history for his team as he smashed 102 runs in 187 balls before returning to the pavilion.
Rahmat Shah First Cricketer To Score Century in Test
Shah accomplished the achievement for the duration of Afghanistan’s one-off Test match that was held against Bangladesh and kick-off yesterday.
On September 5, Afghanistan played against Bangladesh in one-off Test at Chattogram at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Thursday.
Previous this day, Afghanistan won the toss and choose to bat first. The Afghan side however kept losing wickets at regular intervals but then they reached at a point, when they were 77 for the loss of three wickets when Shah came into bat and maintained the balance for his side.
Together with Asghar Afghan, Shah stitched a 120-run stand to bring around the hopes of Afghanistan in the match.
Spinner Rashid Khan on the other hand had also created history on Thursday as he became the youngest cricketer to lead a side in the longest format of the game as well as he achieved this mark after breaking a 15-year-old record.
Rashid Khan is now the youngest captain ever and has surpassed Tatenda Taibu’s record which the Zimbabwean set in the year 2004. Taibu first captained Zimbabwe in 2004 against Sri Lanka at Harare.
Khan on his Twitter handle also posted a picture of him wearing the jersey and wrote, “New test match Jersey.”
While talking to reporters last Friday, Rashid told them after the arrival of his team in Chittagong, “(I am) pretty excited. It is a new role to be a captain of the team and will try my best to be positive and enjoy the game,”
Previously, Rahmat had also scored 98 in Afghanistan’s last Test which was held against Ireland in Dehradun. His achievement now means that all 12 Test playing nations now have a centurion. The only team to have played Test cricket as well as not had a centurion is the World XI that was put together with Graeme Smith as captain for a only Test against Australia in the year 2005. The 76 runs scored by Virender Sehwag was the highest score for them in that match.
Coming back to yesterday scores, Afghanistan has scored total of 271 runs for the loss of five wickets at the conclusion of play on the day one. Taijul Islam as well as Nayeem Hasan from Bangladesh, bagged total of two wickets each while Mahmudullah picked one wicket.
