As per to the Porsche deputy chairman Lutz Meschke, the Porsche 718 Cayman as well as 718 Boxster are the “right cars to start electrification in [Porsche] sportscars”.

Previous this year, Autocar UK, first reported on a probable electric as well as hybrid 718 to arrive in the year 2022, while Meschke on the other hand would not confirm that the electrified model was coming, his comments intensely implicit that this is the case.
He said at that time that the 718 would surely go down a pure-electric path rather than any form of hybrid. He stated “We need to start thinking about electric cars in the sportscar segment. An [electric] 718 could be a very good step in the future.”

He added his statement and said, “I think we will see limited access in European cities [for combustion-engined cars]. There must be a response from Porsche so that we can have sportscars in cities.”
On the other hand, the 718 is not going to be offered only as an electric model. It is going to carry on with four-cylinder variants as well as it is also expected to add six-cylinder engines.

At the same time Porsche boss Oliver Blume also said in a statement, “We have ideas for six-cylinder [in the 718]. If you look at the success of the GT4 Spider, we see the potential of six-cylinder engines.”
He added, “We have different demands in different markets. Chinese buyers want the four-cylinder 718, but in the US, they love the six-cylinder.”
In advance of the arrival of an electric 718, there are total of three electric Porsche models which is going to be go on sale in the international market – the Taycan, unveiled lately, plus the Taycan Cross Turismo, due late following year, as well as an electric variant of the Macan, that is all set to launch in the year 2022.
