Gandhi Jayanti 2022 Live Updates: PM Modi Paying Tribute To Mahatma Gandhi :- A large number of activities have been planned for the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi today. PM Modi has kickstarted the countrywide celebrations with a visit to Rajghat, the resting place of the Father of the Nation, at 7.20 a.m to pay homage. He will also visit Vijayghat, the resting place of former PM Lal Bahadur Shastri, who also shares his birthday with Gandhi to pay tribute.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi also paid floral tributes to the Father of Nation.
Taking to Twitter, former party president Rahul Gandhi said: “On his 150th Jayanti, my tributes to Mahatma Gandhi Ji, the ”Father of the Nation”, who through his words & deeds, showed us that love for all living beings & non-violence is the only way to defeat oppression, bigotry & hatred.”
Reportedly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the Sabarmati Ashram later this evening and declare the country open defecation-free on the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi today. Several events are going to be organised in Gujarat today as part of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary celebrations.
PM Modi is expected to arrive at the Ahmedabad airport around 6 pm and visit the Sabarmati Ashram, where Mahatma Gandhi had lived for several years. As per Gujarat BJP president Jitu Vaghani, from Sabarmati, PM is scheduled to go to the Sabarmati riverfront, where he will declare the country open defecation-free (ODF) in the presence of over 20,000 village heads. The people associated with Gandhian institutions, high court judges, Padma awardees, students, educationists, and village-level sanitation workers have been invited for the function.

Vaghani also said, “Modi will also attend the state-level Navratri festival organised at the city’s GMDC ground. He will spend some time at the Garba ground before leaving for Delhi.”
The administration of Navsari district, where Dandi is located, has organised a mega cleanliness drive at the Dandi beach, where Gandhi made salt as part of a civil disobedience movement, known as the ‘Salt Satyagrah’. Navsari collector Ardra Agarwal said around 1,500 people are likely to join the drive to clean the Dandi beach.
Earlier today, PM Modi tweeted to express gratitude to Mahatma Gandhi for his everlasting contribution to humanity.
On the other hand, BJP president Amit Shah is set to flag off the party’s nationwide “Gandhi Sankalp Yatra”.
According to the reports, Congress leaders, led by party’s interim President Sonia Gandhi, will lead a Gandhi Sandesh padayatra as part of a week-long celebration to mark the 150th birth anniversary. The march will start at 9:30 am from the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee office.
Committee officer, BJP Working President J.P. Nadda will hold a Gandhi Sankalp Yatra at Chand Vatika, near Khaira village in Delhi.
In Uttar Pradesh, the legislature will mark Gandhi Jayanti with non-stop 36-hour sittings by both Houses. However, the opposition has decided to boycott it, claiming that the state government is just out to set a record. The simultaneous sessions of the state assembly and legislative council will begin at 11 am. They will continue through the day, into that night and end on Thursday night — without a break.

Celebrations will also take place outside India as Sri Lanka’s northern city of Jaffna has decided to celebrate Bapu’s 150th birth anniversary in a grand style with extensive arrangements being made by the Indian Consulate. Local organisation Gandhi Seva Samaj is collaborating with the Indian mission in Jaffna to gear up for the event.
Federal Minister for Science and Technology Government of Pakistan Fawad Hussain also remembered the Mahatma as “great leader of the subcontinent”.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres paid tribute to the great leader, who is followed by people across the world for propagating the message of non-violence and peace. He tweeted, “Mahatma Gandhi pioneered successive non-violent movements that changed history.
150 years since his birth, Gandhi’s philosophy is at the core of our work at the @UN. May his courage & conviction continue to inspire us on Wednesday’s International Day of Non-Violence & every day.”
Meanwhile, the world community celebrates the ‘International Day of Non-violence’ on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
