The 34-year old, most talented in the current Australian squad, Captain of the Australian Test team since January 2012  has announced his official retirement after the 5th test match of The Ashes series. Nicknamed “Pup”, he is a right-handed middle-order batsman, an occasional left-arm spinner and a slip catcher. The humiliation and the poor performance of the Australian team in the series seemed to very frustrating for him as a Captain while his personal figures in 2015 test match averaging just 21.78 is not at all good. When being asked in the presentation when had he decided to retire, he answered “I made the decision late last night with my beautiful wife and spoke to my family and then this morning I had a conversation with Darren Lehmann and Rod Marsh and told them what I was going to do and they were both extremely respectful and thankful for what I’ve given Australian cricket.” And the most exigent was when he revealed “ I think Smithy is ready for my replacement”. He admired the whole Australian team for the support and love in his 11 years career.

Though it would be interesting to see his approach in the last Test Match of career but we all know how his last ODI ended on March 29,2015 vs New Zealand (World Cup Final ). He won the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy, winning the Cricketer of the Year 2013, the Test Cricketer of the Year 2013,led Australia to a 5–0 whitewash of England in the 2013–14 Ashes series, named as a Wisden Cricketer of the Year  in 2010, named Wisden Leading Cricketer in the World for the year 2012.
