Latest News: Bihar 12 killed, 4 injured after car-tractor collision

According to a police official, at least 12 people, including two children died while four people were critically injured in a head-on collision between an SUV and a tractor on National Highway 28 in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district on early Saturday.

District Magistrate Chandrashekhar Singh said, “The accident occurred on National Highway 28 in Kanti area, about 80 km north of Patna, when the speeding vehicle carrying 14 people rammed into the bricks-laden tractor, which was driving on the wrong side.”

He further added that the car’s occupants, from a village in the Hathauri area, were returning to their homes on Holi from Buxar, where they had been working as daily wage earners.

The entire front portion of the SUV was flattened under the impact of the collision and its driver and two others, sitting on the front seat, died instantly.

The station house officer of Kanti, Kundan Kumar informed that 8 people died on the spot, while four others succumbed to injuries while they were being rushed to a hospital.

The Police, with the help of residents of Samras village under the Kanti police station, took the injured to the Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) in Muzaffarpur, where their condition is said to be critical.

He added two of the injured have been identified as Rambadan Sahni and Dhruva Sahni, residents of Simari village under Hathaudi police station and their condition has been declared critical by the doctor.

Dr. Sunil Kumar Shahi, superintendent of SKMCH said, “We are monitoring them very closely. All the necessary action is being taken to save their lives. The next 24 hours are very crucial for us. We can say something only after that.”

Singh said that the identity of the dead was yet to be ascertained. He said, “We are trying to identify the victims. The ex gratia amount of Rs 4 lakh to the deceased family members will be given as per rules.”
