The new cases were identified as a 20-year-old woman with travel history to the UK and a 60-year-old person, who was a contact of the deceased Kalaburagi COVID-19 patient. Both are admitted to designated isolation hospitals.

Medical Education Minister Dr. K Sudhakar said that the 32-year-old software engineer was asymptomatic on his arrival and had initially tested negative. He was home isolated and it was only after a week that he developed symptoms. When the samples were sent for testing again, the reports were positive. He said, “Two of the patient’s primary contacts – wife and help at home too are under home isolation.”

Karnataka’s health minister B Sriramulu confirmed the same in a tweet posted on Tuesday morning. He tweeted, “We have got 2 more #COVID2019 cases in Karnataka taking the total number of confirmed cases to 10. 20 yr old female who travelled from the UK is tested positive & another contact of P6 (kalburgi deceased patient) is tested positive. Both are admitted to a designated isolation hospital.”

Meanwhile, according to a tally published by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Tuesday morning, India has 125 Covid-19 cases (excluding the new cases in Karnataka), including two people who have died and 13 who’ve been discharged.

The state government has already ordered the closure of all malls, movie theatres, sports stadiums, parks and has barred public events like major conferences, temple fairs and any activity which would require a large public gathering.

Declared a “controllable” pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO), the coronavirus disease has killed over 7,000 people worldwide. WHO has also said that there is no vaccine or special anti-viral treatment for Covid-19 at present, however, supportive care can help most patients recover. Regular hand-washing with an alcohol-based rub or soap and water, abstaining from touching one’s face, and social distancing are included in the preventive measures against this virus.
