Life During Coronavirus Outbreak: Why this is social media’s big moment

With the rising cases of the novel coronavirus infection, most of the states and districts have been lockdown to isolate the people and prevent the rising virus infection.

The self-quarantine is a social distancing measure which has been implemented across the majority of the country to stop the rising virus infection. The next few weeks are going to be crucial in slowing the virus spread and decreasing the infection. However, staying indoors without much work and things to do might seems to be boring, however, is essential for the betterment of the country.

Why this is social media’s big moment

However, with the current world of technology, you can at least communicate with several people known or unknown via social platforms. Virtual parties have become the latest trend on the internet where several people gather at a slated time and with India being lockdown the trend has picked up the pace. Netflix Party, the Google Chrome extension, that was originally developed in 2015 has been in the trend. Since the beginning of the year, #NetflixParty has turned into a hashtag. Similarly, others are using Instagram to live-connect with friends.

Bollywood stars, who use different platforms to talk to millions in the country, have been taking to social media accounts too like Kareena Kapoor and Shilpa Shetty have posted videos of working out from home while others are enjoying their hobbies like Saif Ali Khan is reading books, etc. On TikTok, a very popular platform in the country, the trending hashtags have either been #safehands or #thebravehearts or #homefitness. Organizations have also roped in influencers on social media platforms — UNICEF has partnered with Amitabh Bachhan in India — to spread verified information on the novel virus.

Recently the Indian government has directed social media platforms to prevent the spread of wrong information. WhatsApp, the most popular app in the country, has launched a helpdesk along with the government of India for the first time. All users have to do is send a text to +919013151515 to receive verified information on WhatsApp.

As the social recession has come, the internet is proving to be a good medium to be in contact with the people and spread the information. However, the information’s authenticity must be checked before forwarding and believing it.
