Hundreds of migrant workers gathered outside the Bandra railway station in Mumbai just hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the extension of a countrywide lockdown on Tuesday till 3 May.

The nationwide lockdown was earlier imposed for 21 days which will end today midnight ut in the wake of increasing numbers of coronavirus positive cases in India, the extension of lockdown till 3 May has been imposed by the Indian government.
All those migrants who gathered outside Mumbai’s Bandra railway station aws asking for transporting facilities in order to go back to their villages.
As per to the reports, heavy police deployment was seen in the area to clear the crowd. In order to do so, the police also resorted to lathi-charge so that they can disperse the gathering as soon as possible.
The people who gathered in Mumbai was mostly daily wage earners, which are around 1,000 in numbers. All of them assembled at suburban Bandra (West) bus depot which is located near the railway station as well as squatted on the road at about 3 pm, PTI quoted a police official as saying.
On the other hand, the daily wage earners, who live on rent in slum area in the neighbouring Patel Nagri locality, were asking for the arrangement of transport so that they can go back to their native towns as well as villages.
These migrants or daily wage workers originally hail from states such as West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh.
Due to the complete lockdown in the nation, the most affected people from this decision are poor and daily wage workers or migrants, this is making their life a constant struggle.
As per to the reports of PTI, though authorities as well as NGOs are providing their best arrangements to give them food and basic necessities, but most of the migrant workers just want to go back to their native places in order to escape the hardship that has been brought by the lockdown.
After the gathering of hundreds of migrants in Mumbai was reported, heavy police was deployed at the protest site in order to tackle any troublesome incident. Many other personnel from other police stations were also called at the spot for maintaining order, said a police official.
In the meantime, Shiv Sena MLA and minister Aaditya Thackeray blamed the Centre for the incident and stated, “The law and order situation in Surat, Gujarat, largely has been seen a similar situation and the feedback from all migrant labour camps is similar. Many are refusing to eat or stay in. Currently more than 6 lakh people are housed in various shelter camps across Maharashtra,”
