Therefore, ICC and BCCI are considering Muscat as their back-up or additional venue for hosting the 2021 T20 World Cup. In the meantime, the Oman Cricket Association has also expressed their interest on the same matter for hosting the event this year “if they are given an opportunity”.

On Friday, Pankaj Khimji, who is the Oman Cricket chief told TOI that the BCCI as well as the ICC should take a call first on the on-going matter and they would be happy to be a possible venue for the upcoming competition. He also said that they have all the facilities and infrastructure to host the 2021 T20 World Cup at present but didn’t receive any official permission yet from the ICC for hosting this international cricket tournament this year.

Previously in August 2020, the ICC has also confirmed Australia as the expected host for the 2022 T20 World Cup tournament. At the same time, International Cricket Council selected Sri Lanka along with the United Arab Emirates as the back-up venues for this upcoming tournament in 2021.

Previously on 17th April 2021, the BCCI has proposed the name of Indian cities to host the matches of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup such as Bangalore, New Delhi, Chennai, Dharamshala, Hyderabad, among few more. However, a final decision is yet to be made by Board of Control for Cricket in India to make the final decision whether the tournament’s matches are going to be held in country or else it should be moved to the United Arab Emirates.

On the same matter, the ICC on 1st June 2021 has given BCCI the deadline to make the final decision of the venue to host the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup. The last date given by ICC to the BCCI for making the decision is 28th June 2021. Also, whether the upcoming cricket tournament is hosted by India or any other country, the BCCI is going to remain the hosts of the competition, confirmed by ICC. This in simple term means that India will still hold the hosting rights even if the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup is shifted to any other country for hosting the tournament.
