The 2021 Presidential election in Iran has been one of the most controversial presidential election in the world and as a matter of fact, before the pre-election, the administration of the American president, Joe Biden has also shown great dissatisfaction and raised several questions on the 2021 presidential election. The administration of Biden was seen saying that candidates for the 2021 Presidential election are disqualified and secondly the people of Iran are not given the choice to chose their own leaders. This is statement is somewhat makign sense in the current election as in the current election for the president of Iran, the electoral system of Iran recorded a 48% voter turnout rate, while to date, 90% of ballots has been counted.

The low voter turnout rate is due to the fact that only a few voters have turned up this year for this election, whereas on the contrary in the year 2017, the voter turnout rate was recorded above 70%. Raisi has managed to get more than 17.8 million votes, while Mohsen from the RFII has managed to secure 3.3 million votes. Meanwhile, Abodolnaser Hemmati from the Executives of Construction of Iran Party (ECP) has got only 2.4 million votes. This election took place in Iran at an extremely critical time, as there are many challenges that are waiting on the way of the next government.

After the Wuhan virus pandemic hit Iran, the country suffered a great recession, thus, the biggest challenge for the next government is to deal with it first and there is a dire need for constitutional reform in the country. Well, the top contender, Raisi is used to close associate of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and played a major contribution in the prosecution of political prisoners. He served as the Chief Justice of Iran for 2 years that were remarked as the heightened oppression of disagreement and violation of human rights. On Sunday, the current president of Iran, Hassan Rouhani visited the office of Raisi in order to congratulate him. Stay tuned with us, for more latest updates.
