The American singer and actress, Vanessa Williams will be performing ‘Black National Anthem’ at the 41st annual independence day concert named, ‘A Capitol Fourth’. The song named, ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing’ is regarded as the Black national anthem in the United States and is originally written as a poem by the American civil rights activist and writer, James Weldon Johnson in the year 1990 and meanwhile, the music composition is done by his brother named, ‘J. Rosamond Johnson on the birthday of Abraham Lincoln in the year 1905.
Apart from singing the song, Willimas will also be seen hosting the concert on Sunday, that is, on 4th July 2021 on the original network of PBS. However, this time, the concert will not broadcast live meaning that instead of an in-person concert, the performance of the various artist would be pre-recorded and would later telecast on PBS. Earlier in the year 2020, the in-person concert was cancelled due to the ongoing Wuhan virus pandemic.

Recently in an interview, the American actress and singer confirmed that she will be performing the anthem as a way to encourage and strengthen Juneteenth during the show. She also said that although all music and art performances of the legendary musicians will not take place LIVE, she assured the firework shown during the concert will be happening live.
She further stated that she hopes and wishes the anthem will yield a feeling of recognition following her performance at previous year’s Independence Day show when she was seen singing, “Not While I’m Around.’Apart from Williams, Christopher Jackson, Ali Stroker and National Symphony Orchestra will also be performing in the concert.
Williams is certainly the right choice for singing this beautiful song, as she herself is regarded as one of the first African-African women to secure the title of Miss American 1984 in the year 1983. Williams also expressed that she is extremely glad that she got the chance to perform in the upcoming concert as it holds a special place in her heart.
On 17th June 2021, the current president of America, Joe Biden signed a law as an act signifying 19th June as a federal holiday. Juneteenth honouring the day of the end of African-American slavery in the United States. Meanwhile, ‘A Capitol Fourth is regarded as a special concert, which is a mix of patriotism and pool culture’ and is accompanied by the Army squad, a marvellous fireworks display exploding over the Washington Monument.
