Two people died in a major vehicle accident Sunday afternoon near Willow Spring in southern Wake County, according to the Wake County sheriff’s office. According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident occurred after one driver crossed the road to the left of the center and collided with another vehicle. According to North Carolina Highway Patrol, officers responded to the scene of an accident on Old Stage Road, south of the intersection of Barbour Store Road. According to highway patrol, the driver of the vehicle, identified as Angela Hinton (53), of Willow Springs, was traveling south on Old Stage Road in her 2022 Chevrolet Acadia. Troopers said Hinton lost control of her vehicle, crossed the road, and went into the northbound lane on Old Stage Road. Troopers responded to a collision on Old Stage Road north of Barbour Store Road shortly after two o’clock Sunday afternoon. Upon investigation, it was determined that the GMC Acadia, driven by a 53-year-old female from Willow Springs, had been traveling on Old Stage when it crossed the center line and collided head-on with a Suburban, driven by a 25-year-old male from Angier. The driver of the Suburban, identified as Gilberto Villagomez Galvan, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Additionally, four passengers in the Suburban were transported to WakeMed for evaluation, but their condition is currently unknown. Authorities have determined that impairment was not a contributing factor to the accident, and the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation. The driver of the Acadia, Hinton, was the sole occupant of the vehicle. All passengers in the SUV were restrained, and speed is not believed to have been a contributing factor, according to Chief of Police John Mellott. The investigation into impairment is ongoing. Mellott said that Old Stage Road closed for approximately three hours in the vicinity of the accident, which also involved a vehicle, and that five EMS units responded to the scene.
