Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Ganesh Joshi, who is alleged of breaking the police’s horse Shaktiman. The incident happens when the alleged BJP MLA was carrying a protest on March 14, was arrested on Friday in Dehradun.
The MLA is charged with attacking the horse whose left leg has been cut off. Animal rights activist Gauri Mulekhi accused Joshi of severely injuring the animal. According to Mulekhi; Ganesh Joshi has caused too much inconvenience to the horse, so a little inconvenience for him is only justified. What happens to him is for the law to decide.
IG Garhwal range Sanjay Gunjyal said that the MLA from Mussoorie was arrested from outside a hotel in Patel Nagar on the basis of an FIR registered against the MLA and his associates at Nehru Colony police station here in relation to the assault on the police horse on March 14.
The official said Joshi is in interrogation. But he refused to disclose where the MLA has been taken. Reacting strongly to the development, BJP lodged a protest with Governor K K Paul and accused it was “abduction” of its MLA.

Meanwhile, the injured horse whose fractured hind leg had to be cut off late last night by a team of doctors at the police lines can now stand with the help of an artificial leg. However, doctors who are keeping eye watch on Shaktiman said it will have to be seen whether the prop is strong enough to support the horse which weighs four quintals.
A surgeon from Mumbai Feroze Khambatta, who led a team of doctors that operated on the horse, said he had performed eight such operations in Nepal and Bhutan but on horses but they weighed only two quintals.
The manner in which Joshi was picked up from outside a hotel suggests he was kidnapped. Those who picked him up were in plain clothes and it is not clear whether they were police personnel or goondas. The leader of Opposition in Uttarakhand Assembly Ajay Bhatt said.However,
However, As Shaktiman weighs four quintals it is not clear for how long time he can stand and move with an artificial leg. He is constantly under the watch of doctors and around two dozen police personnel at the police lines. Shaktiman is a well-trained horse and part of Uttarakhand Mounted Police for years. Chief Minister Harish Rawat also expressed his concern for the horse’s condition.
