Today, Haryana state government has officially approved the demand and renamed the Gurgaon district as Gurugram and obviously the city of Gurgaon will be known as Gurugram.

Along with Gurgaon, Mewat has also renamed. The district of Mewat would officially be called as ‘Nuh’.

Haryana’s cabinet minister Anil Vij has justified the change in name, comparing it to Mumbai, Kolkata and Bengaluru. “In the past too, Bombay has been renamed to Mumbai. Calcutta changed to Kolkata and Bangalore was renamed to Bengaluru. People of Haryana demanded us to do the same. This decision reflects the wish of people,” Anil Vij said.

Gurgaon is one of the prominent cities of Haryana and located about  35 kilometres away from the Delhi-NCR, it is considered to be most influential places of North India.

Although Haryana share the city Chandigarh with Punjab, the city of Gurgaon is considered to be the second capital of the state. Over the years, it has become a centre for the investors both within the country and out of the country.

The city has turned into a huge real estate hub for the developers as large number of population from the capital are shifting from the city due to over-population and other living conditions concern.
