On Tuesday night, a British-era bridge across the Savitri River on the Goa-Mumbai highway collapsed. Due to this incident, traffic halt on the stretch. Over 20 people are believed to be missing. Two Mumbai-bound buses are among the dozen or so vehicles that are believed to have fallen into the flooded river.
The local police and the Officials of the district administration have rushed to the spot late on night. Three teams of the NDRF which include about 80 personnel including divers, have been send for rescue operations. Due to Heavy rain in this area, the rescue operations slow down.
No vehicles or survivors have been found so far in the Savitri River. The Savitri River is flowing over the danger mark, due to heavy monsoonal rain..
Traffic on the Mumbai-Goa highway has been diverted to a new bridge nearby.
The bridge was about 5 km from Mahad town in Raigad District, Maharashtra, about 170 km south of Mumbai. It collapsed around 11:30 pm on 2nd August 2016.
Soon after the bridge collapsed, the chief minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis tweeted:

There is no confirmed assessment about casualties since the area is very dark.
