On Saturday, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi was summoned by a magisterial court in Guwahati to face trial in a criminal defamation case for his remarks against the RSS over temple entry in Barpeta last year.
Sanjoy Hazarika who is the Chief Judicial Magistrate summoned Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on September 21 to face trial under Section 500 of IPC.
Earlier on August 2, the court had postpone for Saturday its decision whether to issue summons against the Congress vice president as an “accused” in the criminal defamation case in Guwahati.
Anjan Bora who is an RSS volunteer had filed the criminal defamation case against Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi in the CJM. The court of Kamrup alleging that Rahul Gandhi had tarnished the image of organisation by saying that he was not allowed by RSS members to enter Barpeta Satra, a 16th century Vaishnavite monastry, Assam on December 12, 2015.
Bora claimed that Gandhi was supposed to go to the Satra on December 12, 2015 but he did not go there and instead took part in a padayatra.
Bora stated in his case that on 14th December , Gandhi told a press conference in Delhi that he tried to enter the Satra but was instead prevented from doing so by the members and RSS supporters.
Bora said that the Congress leader told a blatant lie. He said in petition that a lot of people including women and elected leaders of the Satra were waiting for Rahul Gandhi but he never visited the holy place on that day.
The court had examined several witnesses, including elected members of the Satra and RSS members.
