Macedonian Police : 15 dead, 6 missing, 22 injured in floods after storm hits capital of Skopje : On Sunday, a police official said the on Saturday evening, At least 15 people died, 6 more people were missing and 22 people injured, after heavy rains triggered flash floods in and around the Macedonian capital of Skopje.
The flooding waters had taken some cars hundred of meters away into nearby fields and a large part of the ring road around Skopje had been swept away in the storm.
Particularly, the northern suburbs of Skopje were hard hit. Many homes flooded and damaged due to the storm. There were also flash floods in the city. The police official said that 22 people had been injured, but now they were under treatment.
On Sunday morning, the rain had stopped. But more rain was forecast for the evening in the capital of the small Balkan nation of 2 million citizens.
Further north in the Balkans, in Croatia, strong and fast winds caused some disruptions to transport. The bridge connecting one island to the coast was closed due to the strong winds. The highway linking the capital Zagreb to the southern coast was at times shut to lorries and large buses because of the winds.
