SC denies interim bail to Asaram Bapu, who is facing rape charges

New Delhi: On Thursday, the Supreme Court denied interim bail to self-acclaimed god-man Asaram Bapu and directed the AIIMS to constitute a medical board to evaluate the health of Asaram Bapu.

According to news agency ANI that the medical board of AIIMS has been asked to submit the medical report of Asaram bapu within 10 days to the Supreme Court.

Earlier on Tuesday, the high court of Rajasthan had also rejected the bail plea of self-styled god-man Asaram Bapu. Asaram is facing the rape charges.

An interim bail plea was denied by the high court last month. This was the ninth regular bail plea of Asaram that was rejected by the court.

Justice Nirmal Jeet Kaur said that since the trial of the case has reached its fag end, it was not suitable to give the bail to Asaram. Prosecution counsel P C Solanki said the court also rejected the argument of defence that the trial of the case was taking long.

About the case:

A teenage girl had accused self acclaimed god-man Asaram bapu of sexual assault at his ashram in Manai village near Jodhpur, Rajasthan.

The girl belonging to Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, was a student at the ashram of asaram bapu.

She registered the case against the asaram under the rape charges. Following the complaint of a teenager girl, on 31st August 2016, the Jodhpur police arrested Asaram bapu and has been in jail in Jodhpur, Rajasthan since then.
