Indian athletes Ankit Sharma and Muhammed Anas Yahiya crashed out of their respective events at the ongoing Rio Olympics Games 2016.
Ankit finished 12th in group B with a distance of 7.67 meter of the men’s long jump qualifying round on friday evening. Muhammed Anas finished sixth in his heat and 31st overall in the men’s 400 meter event with a timing of 45.95 seconds. Anas could not qualify for the semi-finals.
Jianan Wang(8.24 m) of China grabbed the First spot in the men’s long jump. Jeff Henderson (8.20 m) of America and Emiliano Lasa (8.14 m) of Uruguay took the second and third place respectively in the men’s long jump.
At the first place in the men’s 400 meter event, Kirani James of Grenada just finished the race in 44.93 seconds. The second place was taken by Machel Cedenio (44.98) of Trinidad and Tobago. Machel finished the race in 44.98 seconds and the third place was grabbed by Ali Khamis, Ali finished the race in 45.12 seconds.
Earlier on Friday, athletes Jinson Johnson and Manpreet Kaur also had disappointing performances in their respective disciplines.
Manpreet Kaur failed to get past the women’s Shot Put qualifying round. The qualifying mark for the 18 shot putters in Group B was to achieve a throw of 18.40 meters or at least the 12 best performers advanced to the final round.
In her first attempt, Manpreet scored 16.68 meters and improved it in her second attempt to 17.06 meters. In her third attempt, She secured only 16.76 meters to finish a disappointing 23rd at the Olympic Stadium.
At Rio Olympic Games 2016, Jinson Johnson ended after he finished fifth in the qualification round of the men’s 800 meters Heat 3 at the Olympic Stadium. The Kerala athlete, Jinson Johnson clocked 1:47.27 minute to cover the distance.
More disappointment was in store for the Indian contingent, when discus thrower Vikas Gowda failed to qualify in the qualifying round. Gowda secured the 28th position among 35 athletes in the discus throw event.
The qualifying mark for the 18 shot putters in Group B was to achieve a throw of 65.50 metres or at least the 12 best performers advanced to the final round.
Gowda threw 57.59 meters and only 58.99 meters in his first and second attempt respectively at the Olympic Stadium. The 33-year-old Gowda only managed a paltry 58.70 m throw in his third attempt, which was way below the desired mark.
In men’s 20 km race walk event, Manish Singh finished 13th position with the time of 1:21:21. The other two Indian athletes Ganapathi Krishnan and Gurmeet Singh were disqualified in the men’s 20 km race walk event at the Olympic stadium.
