India, Bangladesh to jointly make films on ‘1971 War’ documentary

On Tuesday, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry of India said that India and Bangladesh will jointly make a documentary on the 1971 War of Independence of Bangladesh.

A mega movie by Bangladesh to mark the 100th birth anniversary of Father of the Bangladesh Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 2020. India will also facilitate in this production.

In a meeting between Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu and Information Minister of Bangladesh Hasanul Haq Inu in Delhi, Naidu said that India also informed that All India Radio(AIR) would be launching an exclusive service for Bangladesh and Bengali diaspora titled ‘Akashvani Maitree’ on 23rd August.

An official statement said that Indian President Pranab Mukherjee would be launching the channel. The channel would act as a ‘bridge of amity between the two countries’.

A statement released by the I&B Ministry said that in the reference of production of the documentary on the 1971 War of Independence of Bangladesh, I&B miniter Naidu suggested that the archival material available with DD, Films Division, and other media units of the government be optimally utilized.

Naidu said that Timely and correct dissemination of information will prevent falsehood and rumors, while at the same time, build the spirit of cooperation and understanding between people.

During the meeting, India and Bangladesh agreed to work together for a joint audio-visual co-production agreement between the two countries.

According to the statement that it was also agreed to organize Film Festival of Bangladesh in India and a Film Festival of India in Bangladesh. The Bangladesh Minister also agreed to the request of Naidu to provide the celluloid version of the Bengali film Devdas directed by Pramatesh Barua in 1935.

The minister also offered to train young entrepreneurs and young film makers from Bangladesh at the Indian Film and Training Institutes.

He also mentioned that collaborative measures would be initiated between Bangladesh Film Development Corporation and National Film Development Corporation of India (NDFC) to promote joint production of films and also between Bangladesh Film Archives and NFAI for archiving and digitization.

The Ministers also agreed to promote training workshops and capacity building for media persons, exchange of programs between DD and its counterpart in Bangladesh and exchange programme for officers associated with Information and Broadcasting.
