The Government of J&K has read out the riot act to its employees and warned them that it would stop their salaries from the month August if they do not attend office.
On Wednesday, in an order, the Divisional Commissioner directed the heads of departments in J&K not to pay salaries to those employees who play truant.
According to the order, the decision was taken after observing the attendance of the employees for month of July 2016.
Asking for strict adherence, the Divisional Commissioner has warned that any deviation from the order will be viewed seriously and recovery would be made from personal account of the erring officer.
All government offices have witnessed low attendance since 8th July 2016 after the killing of militant Burhan Wani by the Indian security forces. Earlier, Authorities had asked all employees to report for duty and saying that identity cards would be considered as curfew passes.
But the government employees have either not complied with the earlier government directive or have not been able to comply largely because the transport facility is off the roads and security forces do not consider identity cards as curfew passes.
On the other hand, the separatist leadership have also asked employees not attend offices except those in essential services like hospitals.
According to a local newspaper Kashmir Reader which shows the attendance data of August 2016 that Srinagar district has shown the lowest attendance in the government offices in the Kashmir Valley.
There are 50 government departments in Srinagar. More than 20 departments in Srinagar have registered below 30% attendance. The Department of higher education has registered just 10% attendance while irrigation department, the electric division(2nd) and the handicrafts department have witnessed 22%, 33% and 0% attendance respectively.
Pulwama and Kulgam districts in south Kashmir, the attendance in the education department was 7% and 51% respectively.
Kupwara and Baramulla districts in north Kashmir, employee attendance in private schools was 20% and 52% in government schools.
