CHENNAI: The Government of AIADMK in Tamil Nadu has fulfilled one more election promise by increasing the maternity leave of government employees to 9 months from 6 months.
Chief minister of Tamil Nadu – J Jayalalithaa said in the Assembly that my government increased the maternity leave to 6 months from 90 days in 2011. Now, the government is increasing the maternity leave to 9 months from 6 months.
The chief minister announced mega plans involving several crores of rupees for government hospitals across the state.
The government proposes to construct more buildings at Coimbatore Government Medical College Hospital, Kilpauk Government hospital in Chennai and Madurai Rajaji Government Hospital to set up ENT, kidney, plastic surgery, cardio thoracic, vascular and operation facilities for children.
Jayalalithaa said that Conference hall, imaging, post-operative care rooms, IVR rooms and Hybrid OT will be constructed at a cost of Rs. 356.50 Crore in the above mentioned hospitals. Similarly, in these hospitals equipment like CT Scan, MRI, X-ray machines and c-arms will be provided. Training centres with simulators will also be set up in these hospitals. The total cost will be Rs 497.41 crore.
The government would upgrade general hospitals in Tuticorin, Trichy, Tirunelveli, Thanjavur, Vellore and Salem. Equipment for Ultrasounds, imaging, CT Scan, mammography, and others will be provided in these hospitals at a cost of Rs 75.10 crore.
She said that Periyakulam, Krishnagiri, Pudukottai, Dindigul, Cuddalore, Tirupur and Erode hospitals will be provided with haemodialysis, endoscopy, digital fluoroscopy, CT Scan and imaging units at a cost of Rs 153.60 crore.
Tamil Nadu’s chief minister also announced plans totaling Rs 131.43 crore to upgrade facilities in several small government hospitals in the state.
