It is high time India showed it means business in limiting climate change effect, said Chinese officials media. India resisted pressure from the China and US to ratify the Paris climate this year. The China and US are responsible for at least 40% Carbon emission of world.
It said that It is high time that the EU and India, the third and the fourth-largest emitters, also show they mean business when it comes to limiting the effects of climate change.
After US and China confirmed the pact and handed over the instruments to the UN, India warded off pressure from the US and China at the G20 summit when the US and China tried to set 2016 as a deadline to ratify the climate deal.
On Saturday, India’s Sherpa at the Summit, chief of NITI Aayog – Aravind Panagariya said that India and several other countries believe they cannot confirm the deal due to various legal barriers.
Panagariya said that there is no deadline to my mind but we will make submissions of progress. The US and China, 26 countries have ratified, accounting for 39.06 per cent of global emissions.
It said that It is fair to say that India has felt the importance of emissions reduction and has made some efforts.
In a joint statement with US president Barack Obama, PM Modi had said in the month of June that India had begun the processes to enable the Paris deal to enter into force.
