Any citizen of India can now nominate any achiever for the prestigious Padma Awards. The Government of India throw open the nomination process to general public to make it transparent and curb the crony culture of lobbying and influence.
The nominations can be made online but the nominators would be required to give their Aadhaar details for accountability and authenticity.
The sources said that Government of India, for the first time, is encouraging the people of India to nominate achievers for the prestigious Padma Awards.
They said that it is a step towards transforming the national awards into a truly people’s award which will no longer remain restricted to elite rulers.
The sources said that simple online nomination facilitates and encourages all Indian citizens to participate in the nomination.
They said that the changes in the nomination process is aimed at controlling the crony culture of lobbying and influence.
As per the sources that electronic management system plus online application portal harnesses technology to make processing of nominations efficient and transparent.
The Government of India has already received more than 1,700 nominations and the last date of nomination is 15th September 2016.
