On Friday, Top opposition leaders of DMK – MK Stalin and Kanimozhi and MDMK’s Vaiko have arrested as they support a bandh in Tamil Nadu over the Cauvery water dispute with Karnataka.
Most of the restaurants and shops are closed in the state. Education institution like colleges and schools also closed in the state. There are very few private buses and auto rickshaws on the roads. But government buses, trains and flights have not been affected due to a bandh in the state Tamil Nadu.
While attempting to stop trains, the police arrested DMK leader Stalin and his sister Kanimozhi was staging a road block in Chennai. All the leaders and ministers were bundled into police buses along with their supporters by the police and were taken away.
They have also demanded that J Jayalalithaa government in the state ensure that violence in Karnataka since last week targeting Tamilians and their property is stopped or burnt.
A bandh has been called by farmers and trade unions demanding that Karnataka government release the share of water of Tamil Nadu from the Cauvery river.
After the Supreme court ordered the Karnataka government ot release less water every day from Cauvery river to Tamil Nadu, there have been huge protests in Karnataka with widespread vandalism.
The Government of Tamil Nadu says that its farmers are in desperate need of the water for second seasonal crop of the year. Karnataka says Tamil Nadu has already completed one crop cycle, and is now unfairly seeking more water for another crop, whereas its own farmers are struggling.
