Recently, Tech giants – Google confirmed that one of its self driving cars was involved in an accident on Friday afternoon on the streets of Mountain View city, California.
CBS Local reported that a statement from Google that the self-driving car was northbound on Phyllis Avenue, when another vehicle traveling west on El Camino Real, ran a red light and hit the passenger side of autonomous car of Google.
The vehicle was seriously damaged, there were injuries sustained on either the van driver or the Google observer. The details on the accident are yet to be shared by Google. But, they did confirm that during the time of accident, the vehicle was in control.
In a statement, Google said that the vehicle of google was traveling northbound on Phyllis Ave. in Mountain View when a car heading westbound on El Camino Real ran a red light and collided with the right side of our vehicle. Our light was green for at least six seconds before our car entered the intersection. Thousands of crashes happen everyday on U.S. roads.
The red-light running is the main cause of urban crashes in the U.S. Human error plays a role in 94% of the car accidents, so we are developing fully self-driving technology to make our roads safer in future.
