The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced on 1st October 2016, that they will hike the salary of the Indian Test Cricketer to double in order to enhance the popularity and interest of the Test cricket.
According to the hike in the salary of Test Cricketer of India, each India player who will be in the playing XI will receive the whooping amount of Rs. 15 lakh for per game, which is just doubled off the previous fees of Rs. 7 lakh for the per player.
Anurag Thakur, the BCCI president informed the media wing ” we have doubled the salary of Test Cricketer from 7 Lakh to 15 Lakh to increase the interest of the players in the longer version of the Cricket.”
He further added that ” we discussed this and agreed upon this just to grew the interest of Test cricket amongst the new generation of the players. We also can not deny the attraction of new crops of players in the highly paid t20 leagues around the world, so paying good revenue for playing the Test Matches was required.”
The decision was taken at the meeting on Friday, but most of the member present at the meeting were a little bit shy in supporting this decision with the o implementing the recommendations of the Lodha Committee.
Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see whether Supreme court will support this decision of BCCI as Lodha Committee asked BCCI to not take any decision till the recommendations on restructuring the board were in place.
