The 50-year-old woman was being spoken to on unrelated matters on Sunday evening. She stunned the Brisbane officers when she revealed that she had the creature in her canvas satchel.

The Queensland police said that after hearing her, we did not quite believing our ears, the officers carefully unzipped the bag and found this gorgeous boy.

She claimed that she found Joey – the baby koala, on Saturday night. The baby koala is protected under the Nature Conservation Act and had been caring for it since.

Baby Koala was handed to the RSPCA which is an animal protection charity. The charity named him Alfred.

Spokesperson of RSPCA – Michael Beatty said that we are giving baby koala only fluids, but he is doing well and will shortly be going out to a carer.

The Brisbane Police said that the woman was subsequently arrested over outstanding matters and asking further questions on this matter.

In the recent decades, much-loved koala has been under threat across Australia, particularly from diseases, dog attacks, bush fires and mainly for habitat loss.

In the year 2012, the national count placed total koala numbers at 330,000, though their tree-top habitat makes accurate assessment difficult.
