New Delhi: Today, Delhi court granted bail to sacked Delhi AAP minister Sandeep Kumar on rape charges. The court also directed him not to tamper with the evidence. AAP MLA Sandeep Kumar was arrested on 3rd September 2016 and was in custody since then. Special Judge Poonam Chaudhry enlarged the AAP MLA Sandeep Kumar on bail on furnishing of a personal bond of Rs. 1 lakh and surety of a like amount.
The court directed AAP MLA Sandeep Kumar to deposit his passport and not to influence witnesses.
The court granted bail AAP Minister Kumar on the ground that probe, in this case, was over and his custodial interrogation was no longer required.
Delhi police had opposed his bail plea saying that he was an influential person and could scuttle the investigation.
The police further said that the victim lived in the same constituency which Sandeep Kumar represented. If he was released from jail, he might tamper with the evidence and also influence witnesses
AAP MLA Sandeep Kumar said in the court that he has been in the jail for two months and his conduct since the lodging of FIR was good and unquestionable. He had surrendered himself before the Delhi police.
A woman had filed an FIR at Sultanpuri Police Station in North Delhi alleging sexual harassment by the former Social Welfare and Women and Child Development minister Sandeep Kumar, following which a case was filed. APP MLA Sandeep kumar arrested after she lodged a complaint. She had allegedly figured in an objectionable video with him.
On 31st August, AAP government thrown out him from the party after the Sex CD surfaced. Kumar had defended himself saying he had been targeted because he is a dalit.
