BMW aims to sale 100,000 Electric Car in 2017

In the competition with the Tesla Motors Inc., BMW wants to boost sales of electric cars by two-thirds next year to 100,000 vehicles. The BMW – the luxury automaker is offering more battery-powered models in the upcoming years. Tesla is also planning to increase the production of  the electric vehicles.

Chief Executive Officer – Harald Krueger said in an interview that sales of battery-powered BMW models have totaled about 100000 cars since 2013. Munich-based BMW expects to increase its deliveries of fully electric and hybrid vehicles to around 60,000 units this year.

BMW is also increasing the battery range of its i3 city vehicle by 50% this year which helps in to improve sales of the electric vehicle of BMW. The i3  is the only BMW’s fully battery-powered car. BMW sold only 25,000 units of the electric car last year.

As per the newspaper reports that the company has dropped behind Daimler’s Mercedes-Benz in global luxury-car sales rankings. Now the company wants to expand the share of electric cars and hybrid models to between 15% and 25% of sales by the year 2025.
